EUREKA UNION SCHOOL DISTRICT CERTIFICATED JOB DESCRIPTION SCHOOL COUNSELOR Responsibility: Under the supervision of the Director-Special Education, provides counseling services for students; coordinates counseling services with parents, community, and District staff in the arena of educational responsibilities, student performance, personal, family, and social relationships, and parental education; assists District staff, children and families in crisis situations that involve the student’s academic and social well being. Essential Functions: 1. Counsels groups to meet the needs of students in personal family and social relationships, and educational responsibilities. (May meet with individuals on a limited basis.) 2. Works with Site administrators, teachers, District staff, and/or community (courts, child services, etc.) to gain information, make recommendations, or provide requested information. 3. Presents information on various topics to assist in providing advice or required information. 4. Completes documentation (reports, observations, etc.) to provide written records, develop recommendations, and convey information. 5. Works with site administrator(s) annually to develop and prioritize a list of identified student needs to be addressed at each site throughout the school year. 6. Participates with crisis intervention teams in accordance with district-wide process(es) as situations occur that require crisis assistance. 7. Monitors student records to develop plans and provide information regarding student goals. 8. Possess ability to read, understand, and carry out oral and written directions. Duties/Responsibilities: 1. Supervises assigned programs to monitor performance and achieve overall curriculum objectives. 2. Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with fellow employees, teachers, students and parents. Qualifications: 1. Knowledge of developmental processes in students. 2. Knowledge of counseling techniques to facilitate problem solving and decision making. 3. Interpersonal communication techniques and behavioral management techniques. 4. Knowledge of school curriculum. 5. Ability to function within legal and ethical constraints of position; trustworthy and confidential. 6. Ability to establish and maintain rapport with children and adults. Education/Experience: 1. Credential for appropriate position. 2. Criminal Justice Fingerprint clearance. 3. Demonstrated experience as a School Counselor. Physical Requirements: 1. Position requires normal physical strength and endurance for standing, sitting, bending, and walking. 2. Work assignments are normally located in a work environment with light physical work and require light physical effort. 3. Lifting over 25 lbs. or carrying any object over 15 lbs.
